The Economy

I am really enjoying your comments on the giveaway post.  The economy is emerging as the all encompassing concern for 2009.  It’s been on my mind a lot as well, asking my husband weekly to reassure me that his job is secure, contemplating worst case scenarios if he did loose his job…etc.

I feel strongly that if I am wise and careful I can weather this storm without too many scars.  I’ve been reevaluating my habits and deciding where I can be better.  I think I could be a better steward of my resources than I am (my husband is now praising the Lord that I have seen the light).  In light of that, I’ve decided that I don’t need to spend $35 on a gym membership that I hardly ever use, it’s guilt that kept me paying it.  Guilt- that I should go to the gym, so I kept paying telling myself I WILL go…but I don’t.  And honestly?  It is SO boring to stand on an elliptical machine for 30min with nothing but other sweaty runners to watch.  I’d much rather run around my neighborhood (well, until it’s 100 degrees out I would).

The point I am long at getting to today, is that I want to start working out at home.  I have a few videos, one that I like (Yoga Zone for abs) and one I’m embarrassed to admit….Cindy Crawford Shape Your Body, my only defense is that it came out when I was in high school and it was cool to use it then.  I’ve been scrolling through all the videos on Amazon and checking out reviews, but my goodness there are so many!  Can you recommend a good at home work out video?  I’m happy with my Yoga and may venture out of the beginner stage, but I’d like to alternate it with an aerobics workout.  Help?

I love Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred. I has three 20 minute workouts that have cardio and strength worked in. Pretty old school, but good. I have to admit, the “beginner” segment kicked my bootie – it took me a while to try out the other segments.

And just so you don’t feel alone, I have that Cindy Crawford VHS too.

I have been thinking that we should cancel my membership. But I NEED to use it. So it’s hard. If you happen to have On Demand TV through cable they have On Demand fitness “videos”. It’s kind of neat. I should be better about utilizing that. I’m not. Good luck finding some stuff!

Cindy Crawford lololol ;) Do you get the infomercials for Winsor Pilates there? I have heard very good reviews about the dvd’s.

Yes, on-demand fitness is pretty cool. They add new things to it regularly. I don’t use it as much as I should, but it is free with our cable, so I’m already paying for it, so I should take advantage.
    Good luck!

I LOVE the Windsor Pilates DVDs that I have. The moves are super easy to do in the moment and then my muscles are sore (in a good way) for a few days after. It feels good to do and feels effective at the same time.

Good luck in finding the right one for you!

I really like Yoga Booty Ballet. It’s super cheesy, but it’s also a fun cardio workout with yoga and ballet moves at the end of each workout. I was able to find it at Target.

If you have OnDemand with Cox cable, my sister-in-law says the OnDemand fitness channel has great shows to choose from.

Hi Heather. I don’t have any video recommendations. I don’t have a gym membership yet I work out almost every day. I run on the beach or in the fields by my house, ride my bike, walk my dogs and paddle in my kayak. In the summer I swim in my neighbor’s pool. And, all year long I hula hoop every day while my dogs eat.

If if is rainy outside then I either a) run on my treadmill or b) do belly dancing. We have cable and there is a channel called exercise on demand. It has all kinds of cool programs. Belly dancing is my favorite but there is yoga and all kinds of other stuff. There is also the FitTV channel that has exercise programs all the time. You might also try renting videos from your library or looking at garage sales.

My favorites are a bit cheesy, too. They’re dance workouts by Crunch. I have the cardio and fat-burning ones, and I think they are SO FUN.
