The Airplane Room

The Friday night embroidery class at Frances went really well!!  Georganne, if you’re reading this, thank you so much for the opportunity!  I’m so grateful for all the women (and one Dad) who showed up, I enjoyed meeting everyone.  I really hope that everyone walked away with a better understanding of embroidery- and an ability to do the 2 most basic stitches.

I never know if I gush too much on this here blog about Georganne & Frances….but people, it’s a great store and what makes it even better is that it is owned by the AMAZING Georganne.  My gushing overflowed and I made a little sidebar button…feel free to lift it if you too love frances!  Also, I think I found my mom’s christmas present there friday night….I will probably be back later this week to get it….can’t tell you what it is though!

So, onto my Sunday…..Sunday afternoon while I napped on the couch, my son was hard at work, creating this:

the plane room

(you can see the full sized image here)

He has been all over paper airplanes the last month or so, he comes home from school with at least 3 new ones everyday and then makes another 2 after dinner.  It has gotten so bad that I gave him a gallon sized ziplock bag and told him, if they are in the bag they can be kept, if they don’t fit in the bag- it’s time to throw some away!  But today….this takes the cake…he used yellow craft yarn & blue painters tape to string them accross his room…only as high as he can reach.

He is SO proud of this set up.  At first glance though, it reminds me of the booby trapped cabin in the original The Parent Trap!  My husband is insisting that we let him keep it up for a few days…even though it requires me to duck every time I enter the room.

Haha! I totally thought of that scene in the Parent Trap when I saw it too! Also, I used to do random stuff like this in my room all the time when I was growing up. It never dawned on me until now that my mom was probably not so nuts about. I think she let me get away with it because she always though I was going to be an engineer. She should have known it wouldn’t work out. I’ve never been much for math. But way to be a good mom and let your son keep it up for a little while. It really is pretty clever, the way he strung that paper airplane (that hangs down the lowest) so it could “fly” back and forth.

I think it’s fun! :) not nearly as hideous as the “fort” that my boys “built” on our back patio. It got to stay for 48 hours… until I was sure that the neighbors were going to call the homeowner’s association. :) They’re only young once… take pictures and breathe deeply!
