thank you Day Light Savings
We don’t do Day Light Savings here in AZ, however my husband works for a company that does. All this means is that he leaves for work later and gets home later…which translates to my husband being able to take the son to school in the mornings now- very nice indeed!
With one semi-quiet child still at home I enjoy the quiet calming ritual of straightening up the house after the mad morning of getting ready.
- laying out the sons clean clothes for him to put away after school
- straightening all the child made beds
- picking up the stray toothbrushes in the bathroom
- replacing the lid on the toothpaste (i can’t figure out why the kids seem to forget this simple thing?!)
- cleaning up the breakfast dishes and wiping down the counters
If you’d told me 10 years ago I would find a secret pleasure in the quiet morning straightening of my house I would have laughed you out the door. I was destined for bigger things (scruffy anyone?!). I’m not fooling myself that any of the above tasks are vital and important- but they make my families life better. I’ve learned one of the secrets of a happy life is to “love where you are at”. I could spend my days longing for life to be different, or I can try and find the pleasures of where I am at now.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve set a goal for today…if I get my stuff done, I will reward myself with a trip to smeeks this afternoon!!!

I hear ya. My straightening usually happens at night though. I have a lot to get done today but I haven’t bribed myself, maybe I should and then I wouldn’t be on the computer, dreading my day.

What a timely bit of inspiration! I have found myself bored and in a rut lately with all the mundane daily tasks being a SAHM brings. What a great reminder though that it is a choice to either embrace it or dread it. And of course a shopping reward NEVER hurts either!
