power of persuasion
Yesterday morning I woke up to these little gems in my feed reader, and saw this photo in my flickr contacts. I could almost smell the rain. That slight pungency of wet pine needles, with damp earth. Here in the Valley the air was heavy with water…I couldn’t bear the thought of another rainless day with heavy heat, so I told Aaron (who had the day off) that we MUST leave. He picked the perfect spot…
Horton Trail, 15miles outside of Payson, AZ on 260.
We bought fried chicken, I made some cookies and we had a picnic; then set off on an adventure.
Everything was lush and green, the water (from the underground spring) was ice cold, we listened silently to the sound of the leaves rustling in the breeze.
We saw developing thunderstorms. Come to find out….we missed some heavy rains in the Valley.
Oh well, it was beautiful and I loved being up there. If you are local and are looking for an easy “hike”, I totally recommend it. The trail is about 3 mi long and mostly level.
