Planning & Making Lists
Tonight is a girlfriends baby shower, I finished her quilt yesterday. This was my first foray into machine quilting, and probably my last! I swear I pinned and pulled and pinned some more but the fabrics bunched and shifted. One thing I did learn…always machine quilt from the same direction!
I think it will still be functional for the baby though…I’m hoping my friend will turn a blind eye to the flaws.
I need to be cutting up fruit for the baby shower, or folding laundry, or deciding whether or not to wax the floors for tomorrows Tea Party, or cutting up fake flowers, or vacuuming…the list of things to do before tonight and tomorrow at 11am is getting longer and longer! This is what usually happens when I entertain, I start to panic that I will forget something. This time though, I am planning ahead. I made the cookies today and will store them so they are ready for the girls to frost tomorrow.
Tonight after the kids are in bed I will make the pink play-doh (I have no idea what to call it, though I know play-doh is a brand name) and go through the dress up clothes.
must clean kitchen now….

Remember that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. . .because this quilt is such a simple and stunning design and may just have to copy it!! I really like the whole idea of it. . .the monochromatic block and embroidery, etc. Thanks for sharing.

The quilt looks great! I’m with you on quilting on a sewing machine. I did it once, never again. I’m lucky enough to have a long arm at my disposal.

I have a couple of tricks for you for quilting. When you want to sandwich your quilt,(backing, batting, & quilt top) take your backing and find a space on the floor that is big enough to lay out your quilt. Then get yourself some really wide masking tape. Now start taping your quilt backing down to the floor. I use the cement floor in the garage.(make use the fllor is clean! Also make sure that the tape will stick to the floor!) I start taping in one corner and then cross wise to the other corner. When you have your corners done start on the sides. I get my fabric tight! Then lay down the batting and then the quilt top. Bast the quilt sandwich with either safty pins or your can hand baste.
When you get ready to quilt, always start in the middle of the quilt and work out. If you have basted your sandwich together nice and tight you should not have any tucks! I learned all this from a number of quilt classes that i took. Also see if you can get yourself a grapefruit spoon. You the spoons with lots of cut outs on the sides of the spoon ofr eating grapefruit. These spoons work great for closing safty pins if you bast with saftey pins!
I hope helps! You did great on the quilt!
