Minutiae
a day in my life.
6:39am- realize that the baby is not fussing but wants to eat.
7:24am- mop apple juice off counters, inside of drawer and floor (had to do this twice)
9:29am- drop daughter off at preschool
10:42am- get baby to sleep and take a shower
12:08pm- find myself here, agonizing over paper choices for a special commission
1:14pm- swing by Wild Flower Bread Co, spend 15min in car nursing baby
1:37pm-2:26pm spend a blissful hour with sleeping baby eating Roasted Garlic Tomato Soup (does anyone have a recipe for something like this?!) and reading “The Mother In Me“. Totally identified with this line of Darlene Young’s poem;
At night, upon my chest
you and all your children’s children rest.
2:55pm- pick daughter up from play date and wonder why she has sand stuck to her chin (ask her if she was eating it?!)

3:07pm- swing by Walgreens for candy. $5 to bring a little happiness to all the kids I will pick up for carpool.
3:27pm- line up in the drop off/pick up lane.
5:21pm- get a call from Aaron saying he doesn’t know when he’ll be home tonight. Tell kids were going to Sonic for dinner ($1.79 Wacky Pack Wednesday’s).
6:08pm- arrive at sonic, to find that babers has decided she needs to eat NOW.
7:12pm- encourage children to get ready for bed while I start laundry, clean up kitchen, and put baby to bed.
7:58pm- all children tucked warmly into their beds.

It’s 9:26 as I write this, and soon I’ll switch the laundry over, pull out clothes for the kids tomorrow, check the school lunch menu, feed babers and go to bed myself.

I find my life to be similar most days. The phone call from the husband not knowing when they will be home is usually the saddest part of my day, except on Wednesdays when I already know I will be doing bedtime solo.

I wish I could count the days in my life that end up like this, especially the parts that involve feeding the baby in one parking lot or another, and the time spent picking up and dropping people off!
I just found your blog. I hope that your baby is doing better. It’s so hard to have a sick little one. And if it makes you feel any better, three was a bit terrifying for me too! Now we have 8, and I’m still treading water! Best wishes!

That sounds about right to me. That 3rd baby gets fed a lot in the car, or at least ours did. I especially like how you “encouraged” the kids to get ready for bed. The word I might have chosen if this was a recap of my day, would have been “bribed” or “threatened”.
