Machine Mom

I’m learning new things about myself all the time…does this come with age, or have I just been too busy thinking I was all that and a bag of chips (they don’t really say that anymore, do they)?

I’ve noticed that when things get really chaotic (which means nothing to most people since my tolerance level is low to begin with), I shut down, and the machine takes over.  Nothing is personal, everything is purely strategic.  Which means I’m not the softest, nicest mom (or wife) sometimes.

So, I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to work on other ways to deal with stressful situations ( you should see me at the airport with my kids!).  Avoiding stressful situations came to mind (I am queen of avoiding people and situations that I don’t like)….with that in mind I created a few helpful charts for the kids to help calm down our mornings.

The one on the left is for mornings, the right is for afternoons.  I’m crossing my fingers that they help.  I’ve posted them on the wall right outside the kids’ rooms. I just drew these out free hand and then colored them, I think my favorite is the shoes/sand in the afternoon.  Do your kids come home with a cup of sand in each shoe too?

What about you…how do you handle the stresses of home life?  I’m all ears on some suggestions!

I’ve had every intention of making something like this but just haven’t gotten around to it. Mine would have lame clip art.
