Green
for earth day..right…
After my last skirt debacle I decided to try something else… I gave Amy Karol’s 5min skirt tut a try. Well…it turned out a lot bigger than I wanted it, despite my following of the math directions precisely. I kept chopping away at the sides until I got it “right”… a term i use loosely because it fit every where but my hips, which required more altering.
The hem is a bit uneven and dips at the sides, but I’m ok with that, I just tightly zig-zagged the hem anyway, I wanted a rough look. I intend to wear this much of the summer. Did I mention that it was over 100 degrees yesterday? I will probably come up with my own skirt pattern and make a few more easy HOT weather skirts.
Next on the project list? Simplicity 5099, view E with some adjustments. I adapted view A into a maternity shirt when I was pregnant with my daughter. It is an easy pattern to sew and turned out really cute! I just need to pick a fabric, maybe this, or this, or this?
What about you, any clothing patterns you’ve had success with?

Love it. I just made the a-line skirt in the Amy Butler Barcelona skirt pattern. I love it. I am making another for myself, then one for my sister. I do wish it didn’t have a zipper, but it’s good practice for me

I love the fabric choice! I always love the look of skirts, but always end up looking pretty funky in them.
I know what you mean about the 100 degree weather, it was that hot yesterday here too. Dang global warming, it shouldn’t be that hot in April!

Green is my favorite color! I love your skirt!
I just drafted my own pattern from a skirt that I own and like but I want to try a few pattern ones soon.

Skirts for hot weather! Now why didn’t I think of that? What a great excuse to go to the fabric store!
Yours looks perfect for earth day…and the rest of the summer, too!

I really like it, Heather! Such a nice tan you have, too! I really liked the skirts from Sew What! Skirts book. I made this one: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3600/3436671451_8ff58a80ac.jpg
the only difference I would do next time is not add so much ease… maybe no ease. There was too much ease and I had to take it in a lot and well, there’s still a lot of ease. lol!

Skirts for summer is the only way to go and you really can never have too many. I vote for the Garden Party Mingling fabric at Fabritopia. Not that you are asking.
I have often wondered how a skirt made from that pattern would work out. I have thought many times about making it. Now I will be prepared.
