Childrens Museum of Phoenix

We took our second trip to the Childrens Museum of Phoenix yesterday!  It is housed in the old Monroe School (did you know Jackson Pollock attended school there?) at 7th street and Van Buren.

The first time I ever visited a chilren’s museum was in Houston when my oldest was about 18months old.  I LOVED it and couldn’t understand why Phoenix didn’t have one.  There is a pretty good one in Tuscon, but an hour and a half in the car for a trip to the museum seemed a bit excessive to me.  Can you imagine how thrilled I was when the city of Phoenix announced the grand opening of their museum for children this past June?!  We are planning on getting a membership for the kids as a Christmas gift.

Why do we love the museum?  Because it has something for EVERYONE, if you can crawl or walk, you’ll enjoy it!  My kids love the Art Room, especially painting the house:

The grocery store is another must see.  I think each time we’ve come we spend about and hour in there.  The kids love the mini carts and being able to take food off the shelves.  Yesterday they discovered the legume table:

check out this awesome upcycled fish that was hanging on the wall!

Noodle forest was also a hit yesterday!  Hundreds of foam noodles suspended from above allowing the children to run through the forest.

We also enjoy the trike thoroughfare, with car wash, scooping ice-cream, and the human powered segweys.  If you are ever in the area, come check it out, your kids will LOVE it.  We finished the afternoon off with lunch at Pane Binaco at Central/Campbell.  YUMMY sandwhiches (thanks for the tip georganne!).  I posted more pictures from our adventures on flickr if you are interested.

That looks like a great museum. We had an AWESOME children’s museum in Waco, I miss it and if my kids could remember then they would miss it too. Glad you have a great place to take the kids.

YIPPY! When I moved to AZ. 11 yrs. ago, there wasn’t a GREAT Children’s museum to take my children too. Today I tended my girlfriends new baby so she could go on her son’s field trip to this museum and she said it was FANTASTIC! Yeah Phoenix!

I knew it had opened, but hadn’t heard any personal reviews! Glad to hear it’s such a hit and can’t wait to take the kiddos!

the only museum I remember going to when I was a kid was the natural history museum and it was not anything near this cool…just a bunch of old stuffed animals & creepy scenes that didn’t appeal to kids. Now of course I find that kind of stuff fascinating but then…I would have been much more into a noodle forest! Heck…I’d like to do that in my own house!
