Aw, Monday

may 5

Anyone have any ides for my daughters tea party on thursday. I like to entertain but I am not very good at it, I need some ideas on how to keep four 3 and 4yo’s busy. I was thinking of thrifting some plastic easter style hats and letting them glue fake flowers on them…but that is where the ideas end. Help.

What about letting them play dress-up? (and then take their pictures, of course) : )

For the age of girls you’ll be having over, they’d probably enjoy Ring-Around-The-Rosies and London Bridge.

This gal has some cute ideas: http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/html/dress-up_parties_64.html

    Have fun!

I love the dress up idea. My girls went to a party and came home with a pic in a cute, homemade cardboard frame. You could get cheap wood ones at Micheal’s they could paint or decorate.
A tea party is a great theme! Have fun.

I love planning parties! I’ve had so many for my girls. I would often alternate between a sitting down or calm craft and active games. A great craft was letting the kids decorate their own cookies and petite fours. For this age, two or three colors of icing, a couple of plastic knives, some sprinkles, those really hard sugar flowers. For the petite fours, cut purchased pound cake into 1 inch cubes, mix some confectioner’s sugar into canned icing, heat it in the microwave and then pour over the cubes.

Active games could include simon says, hokey pokey, dress up the mommy–anything that makes the adults look silly is fun.

I will say that I try to stay away from turn-taking games unless the turns are really short. I never did pin-the-whatever-on-anything. Another common party disaster is the pinata. I try to stay away from this until kids are 8 or so (enough impulse control so they don’t trample people, nice enough to listen when your suggest they share with someone who didn’t get a lot, more likely to dive in and not wait on the sidelines, and old enough to not break down completely because they got less).

Once the girls have completed their hats, have them model them in a fashion show parade. They’ll love posing for pics and the applause from the parents.
